There’s a saying in that goes, “You are what you eat.” Destruction in our lives is the same way. Right now, what are you eating – reading, listening to, and identifying yourself as. As many things happen around us in the world, the Lord gave me Psalm 52.
The goodness of God is continuous, ongoing and weighty. No matter what, He is good. In today’s world, that’s hard to imagine. Why? Because we have a culture of filthiness. A culture where being petty is glorified. A culture where wearing less has now become more. A culture that laughs and records their kids dancing to songs about drugs, sex, rape, drunkenness sexual immorality, and lewdness. Some of these people are in fact, in the church.
This is the culture that Paul told Timothy about:
3 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6 For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; 9 but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.
Going to church is great, serving the church is great, and giving to the church is great, but if your soul is continuing to perish than all your good deeds are without purpose. It is time to rise up to the call God has on your life – which is first and foremost to be His child. God’s children are called wonderful things in the bible: treasure, holy priesthood, beloved, kings (and of course queens by default), beautiful, purposeful and so much more. In addition, God has spoken things over your life individually that only He can reveal to you in relationship with Him.
God has a specific purpose and plan for everyone’s life on this earth, that’s why He sent His only Son, Jesus, to die for us. He wanted to give humanity a chance for redemption because He loves us so much. He loves us as we are. In 1 John 1:43 – 50 we are told a short story. Jesus finds a man named Philip and says, “Follow Me.” This is powerful because Jesus will find you right where you are. He is looking for you in all walks of life. Whether you are just starting out with Christ or been in a relationship with Him or years, there is always a new opportunity to follow Him each day. It doesn’t matter what you’re doing – the good, the bad, and the ugly. The invitation is always open as long as we are on this earth because God is continually good. His ways are not like ours. His nature and identity is continually, Good. God is Good. As we go further into the story, Philip, being found by Jesus, goes to find his friend Nathaniel. Initially, Nathaniel is skeptical, but Jesus tells him:
“Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” John 1:48
In that quiet and secret place, Jesus saw Nathaniel. Before Philip called Nathaniel, Jesus already had a plan for Nathaniel to meet him. In fact, He had already met Him under the fig tree and used Philip to present the opportunity to follow Him. He seen God. When you see God thorough Jesus, and accept the opportunity, you can do good. All the things you struggle with now, might not look like Jesus, but He can and will change you. But, you have to be humble. You have to be willing to accept that you are not in this world to be like this world. You are not made to just hang around and have 1 million followers. You aren’t made to work a job for the rest of your life with no substance in your soul. You are not made to just be in a relationship and have children. Yes, those things are apart of life, but doing them without conviction and direction is not God’s intent or design for your life. Whatever your life looks like now, be encouraged that, God has a completely new design for it.
In 3 John 1:11, John tells us that anyone who does evil, has not seen God. Keep your eyes open. God will meet you anywhere, send anyone, do anything, just to give you this opportunity to do good. To stop following the culture and immoral ideals of today’s society. Don’t miss it and don’t downplay it, or put limits on God. There’s no secret to growth and success in life spiritually, relationally, financially, professionally, and emotionally. The answer to all the above is right before our eyes in Matthew 6:33:
“So don’t worry at all about having enough food and clothing. Why be like the heathen? For they take pride in all these things and are deeply concerned about them. But your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that you need them, 33 and he will give them to you if you give him first place in your life and live as he wants you to.
